Happy New Year to you - 2010 - Wow! Starting the new year with a Bang! Lots of lovebird babies being born, see my "Birds for Sale" page (button below) for availability!
Thank you for visiting us! I believe bird-keeping is a way of life. My birds aren’t just living day to day, they are At Birdie Boardwalk, we spend our days having fun together, no birds in separate cages in dark corners! When babies are being hand-raised by me, they get play time and are then free to fly (or cling) on to me. This gives them a chance to play together and yes sometimes squabble to get the best place on their human - this makes for a well socialized and friendlier bird, not only towards each other, but their human companion as well. Like potato chips, can't have just one!
I am a small hobby breeder specializing in lovebirds and green cheek conures. I breed for quality and not quantity. I breed a variety of birds, but not too many as to lose personal care. I also believe in breeding my birds as naturally as possible. This means all of my birds that are of a compatible nature live together in little birdie communities in beautiful aviaries. For example, I have an Australian finch aviary. Only finches who naturally live together (or co-exist) in the wild are housed together. For example, finches such as Lady Gouldians and Star finches can live peacefully with grass parakeets such as (Rosey) bourkes and splendids (scarlet chested). Although Zebra finches are from Australia too, they tend to me a little more aggressive and fidgety which can make your more peaceful finches nervous if housed together. Forcing birds to live together in not the goal here and can actually be detrimental to your birds. The size of your enclosure plays a very important role as well. Naturally tolerant birds may loose their temper in a cramped environment. Please do your research and do discuss your intentions with your avian veterinarian and or your bird breeder before attempting this. Once you gained the needed knowledge to accomplish this, there is nothing like a well planted aviary with a variety of birds going about their daily business, bathing, preening, singing, cuddling and socializing together! If you look to the right, you will see a photo of my Australian aviary. The size of this aviary is about 8 feet by 8 feet by 4 feet. I put a large poster in the back of the aviary for that added touch. I included a couple of hanging birds feeders, full spectrum lighting along with night lights to prevent "night fright". I try to provide an environment that best meets their needs and by doing this, I now have a pair of Lady Gouldians who are going on 8 years of age and still wanting to nest!
All of my lovebirds and conure babies are hand-fed and hand-raised by me to make loving companions for you. When you go to the Birds for Sale page, you can scroll around to find what is available at this time. However, if you find what you want is not available, you may request to be on a waiting list by sending me an email at louann@birdieboardwalk.com. Let me know what you are looking for and I can then give you an approximate date when you can expect a baby.
Once you get your baby from me, I will provide you with a care sheet. It will contain important information on how to care for your new baby. Once I wean your baby from special formula, I then provide them with top grade seeds, pellets, fresh fruit and vegetables along with a good calcium supplement and vitamins. If you get a hen, calcium is very important in her diet as she can still lay eggs without a mate. A good calcium supplement will ensure against "egg binding", a very serious condition that your hen can develop if she lacks the necessary calcium (cuttlebones are good, but will not protect against egg binding especially if she doesn't use them!) Cash is preferred but I do accept personal checks if given to me 2 weeks before you pick up your baby. A $20.00 deposit can be made to reserve a baby until weaned and ready to be picked up by you. The remaining balance is due at the time of pick up. Deposits are not refundable unless there is another buyer for your bird at the time of cancellation. If two babies are purchased at the same time, you will receive a discount on your second baby.
